The Blacksmith

The closed, rich and worldwide unknown culture of Ukraine is explored, revealing its essence of strength and resistance. In a typical old village located in Kiew, Sergii, a Ukrainian blacksmith, presents through his work a philosophical and spiritual view of life and his country. This film is showing a contrast between authentic peaceful life and tragic reality of war.

Alone on a desolate planet. Or is he?

This experimental lo-fi sci-fi, shot on super 8 film, charts a voyage through space to another world. Although the monsters may lie much closer to home…
Props from the film were also used by David Bowie’s production team for his penultimate music video, ‘Blackstar’.
The film was painstakingly edited by hand, using optical effects to create an authentic, vintage style.

Director Statement:
“I was so lucky that production of this film coincided with David Bowie’s ‘Blackstar’. When his team contacted us about hiring the spacesuit we had reserved for the production, we were happy to help him out. In return, he funded our little film. I was delighted. Of course, at the time we didn’t know it would be his final project before he died. So it’s bittersweet, in a way. But I’m happy to be connected with that amazing legacy.”

NIGGUN

After a long journey through space, the last two believers are about to reach their destination. Ananda, the space archaeologist, hopes to prove that Earth is not a myth and that all mankind did originate from the same tiny blue planet – but mostly he wants to prove his colleagues and his father wrong and to make the biggest discovery in history. Yamaka, the outcaste rabbi, is searching for something subtler. He believes that Jerusalem is not just a mystical idea, but an actual place, where he might find the feeling of holiness missing in his life. Together they followed the clues and arrived at their destination, but instead of a living planet and a holy city, they find only the fragments of what once was…
