From 1941 to 1943, Dr. Joseph H. Stanislaw produced a science fiction film with which he intended to disclose his theories and research concerning the study of the influence of cosmic emanations on the human mind, through his experiments with a film of Ectoplasmic sensitivity.
The story of this unique scientist and his unreleased film (Sadly destroyed by Soviet authorities during the siege of Leningrad )
It seemed lost forever …
Until 1965 when some of the most important pieces of his invaluable legacy were found in the depository of Kresty prison. Now at last, after a painstaking restoration, and thanks to the magic of cinema’s science,
We are going to travel into a utopian world where all his theories have been implemented.

In a not too distant future, there has been a world-wide dictatorship that automatically defines “The System”. The power grip of this structure has been so well orchestrated and implemented that the same population does not appear to experience the bond of slavery for which it has been reduced. In such a context, contingent contingents of rebels try to oppose the appalling vice of the System. Our story takes hold of the moment when the rebel leader chooses to deliver himself spontaneously in the opponent’s arms, knowing to go to the first “Public Rieducation”, or a brainwash in the public square.

Alone on a desolate planet. Or is he?

This experimental lo-fi sci-fi, shot on super 8 film, charts a voyage through space to another world. Although the monsters may lie much closer to home…
Props from the film were also used by David Bowie’s production team for his penultimate music video, ‘Blackstar’.
The film was painstakingly edited by hand, using optical effects to create an authentic, vintage style.

Director Statement:
“I was so lucky that production of this film coincided with David Bowie’s ‘Blackstar’. When his team contacted us about hiring the spacesuit we had reserved for the production, we were happy to help him out. In return, he funded our little film. I was delighted. Of course, at the time we didn’t know it would be his final project before he died. So it’s bittersweet, in a way. But I’m happy to be connected with that amazing legacy.”
