Tau, the daemon and the city

Tau is, at once, a fiction film on spirits, a documentary on the passing of time in a small town and a portrait of Catalan traditional culture.

An immaterial being talks us through the streets of a coastal town. Moving between people’s feelings, dreams, and mindscapes, the spirit relentlessly looks for his double among the city inhabitants.

Tau is a docu-fiction portrait of a city, Tarragona, as seen through the “eyes” of a daemon who dwells in a parallel, and yet close to ours, reality. The story takes place somewhere between the contemporary world and the ancient times of myths, spirits, and daemons. The film also explores cultural archetypes showing the eternal conflict between centralized and decentralized structures, between pyramids and networks.

Director Statement:
The idea for “Tau, the daemon and the city” came at the time I was working as a cameraman for tv. I was often sent to record images of certain programmes. Sometimes it was a contest, sometimes news or cultural events; and, many times, while I was filming those “commissioned images”, I noticed, around me, other images that were much more interesting than the ones I was supposed to take. I soon realized that this was not a rare occurrence and that, in fact, every time one spends enough time, it doesn’t matter where, if one is patient, valuable images show up. I recalled VictoThere are saying: “There are things that time doesn’t give you if you can’t wait”. I decided to put this assumption to practice and It soon came to me that I should make a film about my hometown. And, since I needed some departure point, I decided to capture an annual cycle.

I kept going out to the streets regularly with the camera, looking for the images reality had to offer. It took more than one year, but gradually I filmed less and less. Finally, in 2017, watching some of the raw footage after having long forgotten about it, I noticed that the images already looked old, that my city had changed and that technology had evolved too. My old camcorder didn’t work properly anymore and I would better hurry to capture all those tapes if I didn’t want them to disappear in the drawer of abandoned projects and obsolete technologies.

An image says a lot about an eye, and this is true in the same measure for creators and viewers. I can say I feel the images in this film as a personal process (even if I was possessed by the daemon when I filmed them) and I can perfectly recall the total fusion with the present that I experienced shooting each one of them. As to the voice over text, it was fully dictated to me by the daemon after a reading of Plotinus’ Enneads. It’s hard to say whether we have ideas or ideas have us. Sometimes I feel as if the spirit has abandoned me and I miss him (or her), but on other occasions, I’m not sure of where my thoughts end and where the daemons begin.

Holy Terrors

Six Weird Tales by Arthur Machen

Arthur Machen (1863-1947) was a writer and journalist. Born in Caerleon on Usk, South Wales, he is most widely remembered today as the author of The Bowmen, which gave rise to the legend of the Angels of Mons. Machen’s other fiction, novels and short stories are fantastic and surreal, playing most often around the edge where the familiar world may suddenly fall into abeyance. His non-fiction works include literary criticism, cultural history and spiritual polemic, all of which justify his memory as the apostle of wonder’

The tale of the Idiot

Evelin lives with her sister Alice and her Father in an isolated cottage along the river.
Since her mother’s passing, no one has ever crossed the gate of their property.
Nobody has left or entered.

They live in a world in which every sign of life has to be suppressed and inhibited. Life is a source of pain, attachments and affections induce sorrow and this evil has to be avoided. But now something new has started to grow inside Evelin. Something that cannot be pushed away. Her body has awakened and has no intention to be bunked down again. In the meantime, the blossoming spring has started and a young man, called by everyone the idiot, has decided to abandon his land, looking for the woman he met in his dreams.

The story was inspired by the book “More Than Human” by Theodore Sturgeon

“ Like a stone in a peach, a yolk in an egg, he carried another thing.

It was passive, it was receptive, it was awake and alive. If it was connected in any way to the animal integument, it ignored the connexions. It drew its substance from the idiot and was otherwise unaware of him.

Vibration: The Symphony of Life

Vibration is the basic natural law of life stating that all matter is energy vibrating at its own frequency. Experiencing the power of vibration leads to feeling whole, becoming more aware, and uplifting ourselves and the world. With each conscious breath, the intimate connections of all existence appear and the living universal field that we exist in becomes evident. Vibration ~ The Symphony of Life is a conversation with scientists, researchers, healers, and educators that explores the emerging science of the bio-field, the human connection, and the use of will and intention to act on behalf of the greater life.

Underlying all matter is energy and this energy is governed by the Law of Vibration. In truth, nothing rests; all manifestation is in a constant state of rhythm and movement through pulsating fields of energy. If we visualize the vibration of the universe as being similar to a spider’s web, we begin to understand the intimate connections of all existence. No corner of the web can be touched or impacted without the tremors being transmitted throughout all points of this web of life. While we each vibrate at our own frequency (sounding our ‘individual note’ into the greater life), we are simultaneously participating in the greater symphony of life through our roles as dynamic receivers, transformers, and transmitters of varying material and spiritual energies. Humanity is gradually awakening to the interconnections of all creation and its innate oneness. The air we breathe, like water, has no divisions or boundaries. To truly live the fullness of our lives as spiritual beings, we must venture beyond the mere tangible nature of physical reality. Modern discoveries in physics are rapidly altering our view of how vibration, through color, sound, and movement impacts these fields and affects our feelings and moods. Indeed, the earth itself emits a heartbeat, known as the Schumann resonance, embracing all within its field. This vibration is reflective of the planet’s bio-rhythmic signature and functions as the life support system here on earth. The goal of this educational documentary will be to explore the deepest secrets of the universe and bridge the mind-body-spirit connection while offering practical applications in everyday life. It will foster higher awareness by conveying the power of vibration through a synthesis of science, philosophy and ageless wisdom.

Elegy in Light

“Elegy in Light”, shot on super 8mm film at the funeral of Catholicos Vazgen I, Supreme Patriarch of All Armenians, depicts an ancient and rarely seen rite of the Armenian Church with the sound of monastic ritual chant: an experience described by one viewer as “a psychedelic trip into medieval times.”

The film is an impressionistic meditation on death, life and the fragmentary way we remember the past. The quality of 8mm film is a metaphor for memory and for the soul itself; a cinematic memorial made from the substances of time and light.

Shot on 8mm film, the cinematic medium most closely associated with memory, the work depicts the ancient burial rite of the spiritual head of the Armenian Church. It is a rarely seen, deeply mystical and esoteric ceremony that symbolizes the spiritual metamorphosis of the soul from this world to the next. The work is meant to express the arcane essence of a Near Eastern religious tradition dating back to the early 4th century.

Thrill Over Fear

The concept in basic terms is to thrive over your fears, face them and overcome them, without having the obstacles or experience change you. To stand tall and as a winner in dark times we all face. It also invokes, resembles and exposes the dark side we all carry within to battle our obstacles. In the film’s introduction, we see a light being transcended and go beyond the range or limits of time represented by a clock, while it is set by a thunderstorm characterized as a difficult period or time.

Director Statement:
There are a lot of perspectives and interpretations to this story, it really depends on how one views it and their intentions or inner self-consciousness plays an important role, that is the story’s singularity and what makes it unique. It exercises one’s mind, and that is an essential aspect of me and my art, to make people think and question. To me personally, it’s about thrilling over your fears, of a dark journey into the unknown, and shedding light to darkness to reveal the truth or revealing one’s true colors.
